2-1/8". Reads "Earth Society/QE2/Kohouket/Hope '74." Comet Kohoutek fell far short of expectations and, since, has been synonymous with spectacular duds. In 1973, the founder of Children of God, David Berg, predicted that a colossal doomsday event in the United States would happen in January 1974 based on a foretelling by Comet Kohoutek. Children of God members reacted by distributing Berg's message of doom across the country. Many U.S. based members fled to existing group communes around the world in anticipation. Comet Kohoutek also inspired a story arc of "Peanuts" from December 29, 1973-January 3, 1974 when Snoopy and Woodstock hid from a strange light in the sky, which was identified as Kohoutek. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Scarce.
